The Team from Brisbane Fishing would like to annouce their pledge to support Autism Queensland through this years Austackle Brisbane River Classic. We will be donating $10 from every Junior entry from this years Classic towards the hard and admirable work that the crew from Autism Queenland conduct. In conjuction with this donation from the junior entries, we will create a donations drive for any adult participants, or any other members of Brisbane Fishing Online who would like to contribute.

Junior anglers this year are just as eligible to win the copious ammounts of lucky door prizes on offer as their senior counter parts. With this in mind, if you have or know any eligible Junior entrants conisider entering them to both support the AFO community and Autism Queensland.

For those of you not aware of the prevelance of the Autism spectrum, or the hard work the organisation undetakes we would like to provide some further information:

Who is Autism Queensland?

"Autism Queensland is a community based, not-for-profit, Incorporated Association dedicated to bringing about positive change in the lives of people with Autism and their families.

We are the only organisation that provides a comprehensive range of specialised services and support for people of all ages living with Autism and their families throughout Queensland.

We are the state’s longest serving and most experienced agency with over 45 years of experience in the delivery of Early Intervention, education and training, support, therapy and respite care.

Our services include Queensland’s only accredited, non-state schools located at Sunnybank and Brighton delivering Autism-specific education and therapy programs; Centres of Excellence in Far North and Central Queensland; as well as outreach, training and support services for parents, professionals and schools across the state.

Autism Queensland is involved in a variety of research programs in collaboration with universities to better understand Autism and develop improved interventions for people with Autism in the future.

Demand for our services is growing every year – we now support over 3,000 people with Autism across Queensland, this is up 40 per cent from 10 years ago.

We rely on community, government and business to support our valuable programs".

We look forward to seeing many of you there.

Thanks Dan!

Appreciated!

I hope we can gain some supprt for this organisation through this event.

In my role as a special needs teacher aide a large part of my job is dealing with kids on the Autism Spectrum (this includes both Autism and Aspergus). The thing is a lot of people "not in the know" still see this is a low range not so common thing.

The facts are however, for whatever reason, that the condition is massively on the rise. Some people theorise different ideas as to why (artificial additives in food, pollution etc) but there is no definitive answer. The truth however is its there and increasing.

Its easy for people not affected by this condition to ignore it, but I can tell you now, by the time we are all old and grey, we will know people or be related to people with this condition.

Its not all bad. Many many Aspergus and Autistic people are HIGHLY intelligent, its just a matter of focusing those engergies towards achievement as opposed to obscurity.

Anyway.

Thats my two cents.

Thanks for the support Kylie.

Yeah its an interesting change after 5 years of running a real estate office! But I havent regretted it as this is far more satisfying. I actually have had a few snide comments from people who know what I used to do business wise along the lines of "why would you want to be justa teacher aide"... :P Originally found myself there by default after Riviera went down the gurgler but decided to stay and am now finishing off a teaching degree to take it further. Its a pay cut but now with some decent holidays that align with the Mrs holidays with no planning required there is tonnes of cool plans on the cards :)

Look forward to catching up with you guys at the comp!

Angus

At present we have a large adult contingent but very few juniors entered.

If you have or know of anyone with an eligible candidate please consider this event. At this stage they will stand a great chance of winning an awesome, help support a great cause and be eligible for some amazing lucky door prizes.
