I picked up a pair of spotties this morning to put onto the jeep. I was hoping that I could just wire them in to the leftovers from when the previous owner pulled off the lights.

It didn't work.

So, is anybody interested in helping me wire up some spotlights?

i can flick you the wiring diagram i used to wire mine in yesterday if you want Gary. took me a couple of hours, but i had to do it from scratch. it would give you an idea on what you would be looking for to find any missing bits and pieces

also, silly question...

but did you try them with your high beam on? they might have been wired to only turn on if your high beam is on as well

Stu, pretty sure the relay is still in there unless the relay that came with the lights I bought just happens to look exactly like an existing part in the jeep (so very very possible since I know NOTHING about the electrical side of vehicles).

Neal and Beau, if you can track down the wiring diagrams I'd be grateful. And yes, I tried it with the high beams and everything else.

There are a lot of mysterious cut wires hanging around in there, so I've got no clue what the guy thought he was doing....

To be legal, driving/spot lights must have a separate on off switch and can only come on when the high beam is already on.

Just chucking it out there to help ;-)

thats how i wired mine, so the relay can only get power when the high beam is on. don't want any attention from the boys in blue.

here's the diagram i went off gary, except on it they have the relay getting a signal from the headlight power, not the high beam. it was pretty straight forward, just use a multimeter to find which wire in the back of your headlight only has 12v when the high beam is on. mine was blue with yellow stripe, but i'm sure the jeep is different.
