Took dad down to 1770 for the weekend to chill out and breath some fresh air, gets a bit unbearable breathing in the rubbish here in Gladstone. The predictions where for 0-5kn N in the mornings to about 8 in the arvos so expectations where high. The plan was to fish Bustard bay headland, inner, middle and outer rocks up to Clews point. Friday was unreal, glassed out conditions and tuna everywhere but very skiddish but we managed a few on Armour shads B) Tried the fly but need much more practice.

We gave the rocks (Just like tugger rock) a hiding with soft plastics and got a mix of Dart and small spotties and some epic bust offs even with 40LB leaders I was getting smoked either big Emperors or big trout I think. By mid morning the winds shifted to the south and sat around 10 to 15 so it wasn't to comfy and we decided to sit back and drag some big lures around. The Mackerel were small but regular and the rest of our weekend was taken up with trolling  borring as ever but the ice box was full. Spotties to about 70cm and Spaniards to 90cm B)

Dads catch of the weekend was a 104cm Bludger Trevally, to say he was stoked would be an understatement

Scored one legal buck in the pots this arv after walking 200m to grab the pots :S not a lot of water in the creeks here on low tide. Back at the ramp the fisheries were doing the boat checks which is good to see. All my stuff was up to standard, I did how ever get told not to skin the fillets until getting home, which I knew but thought bugger it sick of doing it all at home, so don't forget to leave the skins on your fillets guys :) No fine so that was cool. Awesome weekend shame its over, next purchase is an epirb so we can head out a bit further and hit those awesome looking reefs up here B)

Good sess Den. That's a solid Trevalli. Awesome you got a rock to yourself. Trolling is boring man, we used 5" plastics if you want to fish for reefies properly. On the drift bro we cleaned being up at Hinchinbrook.

Knew we should have stopped in 1770 to meet you, way back from Cardwell. But wanted to get back to Bris quickly and have mackerel sess, hopefully get out there next time.

Cheers Eug
