queensland first couple of trips on the yak

decided to have quick paddle around the maroochy this arvo, only the 2nd time fishing from the kayak, both times I've caught something.

The first trip I managed a just undersized bream from a 5 hour session, today I also only got the 1 fish onboard, but it was a definate keeper. it decided it liked the look of my bait as I was trying to wind in as much line as I could on my other rod that had attached itself to a lost crab pot.

had a couple of other good runs, but due to me being a little slow/unco, they managed to get away. going to have to switch to circles, only have them in the larger sizes at the moment.

Well done.

They tend to be a schooling fish, so if you get one, it is always worth hanging around that spot for a while.

Good on ya neal!..I`ve just started using circle hooks..not bad at all..bit hard to get used to putting bait on at first haha

Hi Neal

Circle hooks are great, especially if you are into catch and release. Trick with them is not to strike though, otherwise you just pull the hook out of their mouth. My wife uses them with a bait runner and that works a treat.

Gloomy, I'm more into catch and eat!

I use circles offshore when I get out in dads boat, I just dont have any smaller ones at the moment.

I just have a bait out when I'm drifting along flicking a plastic. so far I only seem to catch fish on the bait and don't get a touch on the plastic! either way, as long as I'm catching something I don't care which method works!
