dragnet technique by yourself?

Does anyone use a dragnet by themselves? If so what technique do you use to stay within the regulations(you're not allowed to fix the net)

I don't think there is a way to use one solo. Maybe using two long ropes ???

Cast net is the way to go.

For whatever reason I cannot throw consistent circles, rarely does my cast net open up. I just want to be able to catch a feed every now and then, for my self of course... I'm not greedy and stay within regulations.

Have you looked at some Youtube clips ?

The one by Nugget is very good/helpful.

Failing that, someone who can do it really needs to help with your technique.

Have you tried with 9 -12 foot nets ? They are generally easier to get a decent spread on.

I've looked at too many youtube videos

I use a 7ft draw string, got a couple small holes near the lead line which dont help.

I used to be able to throw my 9 footer perfectly in the back yard but when at the water any shape other than a mangled straight line was a rarity.

It took a one on one tuition to get it right....

I'm no expert but could give you a few tips and show you how to throw a cast net if you want. I'm on the Northside. Offer is there is you want.

I have still remember the day you threw and caught all those mullet. That was a top cast.

Perfect circles every time? 

 

sort of circles some of the time - unless of course there is a cloud of herring under us and I want an average cast - then it comes out perfect. 4.5kg of herring in one cast, took ecat and I 1.5 hours to get them all out of net... 

 

There re is no way to legally use a drag net effectively solo unfortunately.
