Goodayrbguhs I have not been on this forum as I have not fished in the salt for a long time but on Christmas I had a small window of fishing and had a blast with a new mate and a little canoe we went in and started bobbing on logs and had a blast for the last hour of fishing we got 10 yellowbelly a bit crowded with 3 people on a canoe but good fun Cheers

Yellow belly can be funny creatures, they love holding to logs but also love actively patrolling the banks. The smaller ones will aggressively take lures but the really big ones can be very hesitant to bite, preferring to feed in short windows in specific ways. 

Targeting them can be really satisfying, keep at it and catch a lot more.

The smaller ones will chase down a lure but still prefer an ambush from cover. I find the key to the big ones is a slow retrieval with plenty of pauses, it's on the pause that they most often hit, I think they are hesitant to chase something they think might escape and wasting their energy, a good pause seems to be the trick in getting more fish to commit to a strike.
