new south wales portable live bait tank

After suggestions for a portable livey tank for yakkas. I own a Quinny 4.55 and have no space to fit a plumbed system.

I am looking to keep a dozen yakka alive for a few hours if possible.

I have looked at the Seaflo rechargeable aerator which I could use in an esky or bucket or maybe a portable bilge pump system which I could connect to my battery for short periods of time.

Transom space quite limited too so would probably have to put bucket or esky inside boat.

Any advice appreciated. I do have experience running proper plumbed systems but space is a premium in this boat.

I reckon you should get a 20L bucket, fill this with water, then stack another 20L bucket with holes drilled throughout with your yakkas inside in this, then chuck a couple of BCF aerators in.
This way you can easily change water as well by lifting the bucket with drilled holes out.

get a small 20l esky for your live well.....keeping the water temp low is critical.

Thanks guys. I am now leaning to a permanently plumbed bilge system but with a tank that I can easily remove when not in use. Probably around the 40 litre mark.

I use the Alvey Engel Cooler Box, it's a good cooler, has 4 rod holders and a really good aerator.

I've tried others but this is the one that works and works really well, I highly recommend it.

I am looking at keeping 20 odd yellowatail alive for around 6 hours.

I haven't tried with salt water fish, but I kept 5 yellow belly in one for two days before letting them go in a dam on a farm. So it should be fine.

What about this .

Used with a 30 litre round bucket on transom.

I wouldn,t mount bilge pump, but instead attach two hoses to the pump and throw one over the side to pick up water and one in the 30 litre bucket.

As bucket is on transom I could drill a hole for an outlet in bucket and it could run over the side of transom?

Reasoning is space is a premium and I only need to keep a few livies every once in a while as boat is used for family chill trips also.
