hey all, im planning on hitting up mud island in a couple of weeks. Any advise for fishing around the island?

Hopeing on mainly use sp's, but will most likely throw some bait over aswell. Havent fished there so any help would be awesome!

No fishing advice, but make sure your safety gear is up to speed for Partially Smooth waters (flares etc).

I think Gazza (?not sure) got booked last year and I've heard of a couple since then being checked around the Mud area.

i got flares, emergency blanket thing with an x on it. Life jackets, what else would i need you reckon?

best advice is to keep an eye on the weather, be prepared to change destination.

A stiff wind from the North is your enemy, most of Muds better grounds are the N/W edge of the Island.

Peel, St Hel, Mackley all have similar reef structure and can be fished if the wind is not in your favour.

Take plenty of 2/0 Nitro's in 1/8, 1/6 and 1/4 or 5/0 in TT if you dont have an electric.

4/5" Jerk Shads, Camo,Lime Tiger, Blue Pepper Neon, Pearl Watermelon or my favourite Zoom Super Flukes in Baby Bass or other similar plastics if you dont like paying Berkley prices. Yes you can also use Nuc Chicken if they tickle your fancy

dude...if the sps are not getting hits from the snapper on the eastern drop off..head in close to the island and target bream and big eyes with poppers...at low tide there is a coral spit on the north eastern end..that goes pretty good...and even worth a troll for tailor there at the moment..try trolling just out from that spit..but if they r on..ya can can get em all round the island..troll long minnows that dive to bout 2 mtrs max....and if ya find a patch of snapper drift well over em and give the spot a wide berth so the motor dont spook em...un less ya have a leccy....

water, bailing bucket, mirror, v sheet, torch, oars

best to check though

if its the waler your going in will need a torch and bucket and drinking water on top of the flares, pfd type 1 and v sheet and oars

Fire extinguisher, My neighbour has a suspended fine due to not having one a year ago when we both went out. We had everything else..... which didn't matter

The fish being caught around mud island this month have been good so hopefully you will catch some nice fish. Yeah and keep an eye on the weather.
