Warning to \"Yakers\"

Hi,

Got this in my email at work today, a work collegue of several years lost his son on the weekend Kayaking. So you \"Yakers\" who are new to it, take care eh?

The office that I run on your behalf will be closed between 16 and 20

October 2006.

This is unexpected and due to the tragic death of my dear eldest son,

Simon, on Saturday the 14th. He was kayaking on the Severn River near

Ashford in NSW and was sucked into a vortex and was not able to be

resuscitated when he came free. The loss is pretty rough as he was a

vibrant soul who participated fully in life. He was in his first year of a

PhD thesis in the Mechanical Engineering Department at UQ.

Bob Brown the politician nearly lost his life in a similar incident many years ago on the Franklin River, ironically the river he was instrumental in saving many years later.

Yep, usually around rapids, waterfalls and sunken objects.

Well it's easy to avoid rapids and waterfalls as I'm never near them. Though not too sure about the submerged objects. Sorry to hear of such a thing.
