Ha ha that's crazy Kev. For anyone who doesn't realise that reel has a computer chip built in that controls backlash and lets you do insanely long casts.

donno and never tried. distance's not a big reason why i bought this reel and i don't think the reel can shoot an X-rap further than my calais 100a. i got the reel for it's refinement and that i love high end gear, lol

How do those chips work? Does it somehow realise that the spool is still spinning but line is not peeling off?

i think it just keeps the spinning constant

makes sense, so your cast doesnt meet much resistence and it peels off with little friction meaning super long casts right?

it can observe the spool speed and react upon spool speed. it have 4*8 preprogrammed braking curve for different casting requirements.

I believe it had 4 global setting which are each tunable.

Far out Kev that is a crazy bit of kit! I'm guessing it would be a bad idea if it got dunked accidently, or is the circuit sealed?

I think the reel was about $600 but was "as new" not brand new and it is only sold in Japan. Closest thing available to it in AU is the Calais DC but it is a slightly inferior reel.

As for the water thing it can be used in SW but not recommended and you wouldn't want to dunk it in any water if you could avoid it.
