Collecting green weed for blackfishing, Gold Coast

Hi All,

Does anyone know where I can collect green weed or cabbage for blackfishing on the northern end of the Gold Coast. Preferably around the Runaway Bay/Paradise Point areas.

i dont know about there but we get it at the wynum shore towards the fishermans iland end dont know if it helps u though

try a headland , usualy the place to get it

probably no help but i'll through it up anyway, there's plenty of cabbage weed on the comslie pontoon:)

this might sound stupid to some, but how do rig/present the weed on a hook

cabbage weed can be thread on fairly well or you can try something like this

Soo all that crap that grows off pontoons and boats ect can be used for blackfish? What about that weed stuff that grows in some freshwater lakes..

great pics neil ...

ive noticed a few of the senior anglers in my area lately brandishing long poles with hooks on the end in the cane drains .. can only guess there getting the longer stringy type of weed that is a very dark green in color ... sometimes close to black ....

why a fish would eat that crap grown in the chemical runoff beats me ..

Yep at the end of the comslie pontoon theres plenty of the stuff. I reckon if you used some in the clean fast moving water at the passage at fishermans you would have a great chance of catching a few. :)

I'm keen to hear how you go, both in collecting the weed and in how you do.

I remember all the old boys fishing for "Niggers" down at Jacobs Well when I was a kid. Really long floppy rods, serious as, have a fit if anyone so much as coughed!

The old blokes that are using the long poles are getting black weed which is dynamite on blackfish, down here in Ballina some use no other but me personally would not use it as it looks wrong, but if you get some before you go and fish for blackfish but black weed under your misses hair dryer it will make it more plyable to use but for me horse hair is the ducks nuts on blackfish
