Absolute ripper! Obviously there team looked better on paper but I think that played into our hands. You had Gallen already thinking they had won the series 3-0 and Joey couldn’t see how they could lose. Don’t they remember 1995? They hadn’t taken note of Wayne and Mal’s coaching records?
As Gus said in the second half they just didn’t look comfortable being made to work hard and just wanted to get their next six again and go through their set plays. Typifies that their attitude was ‘us by how many’.
Origins are win up front and we were only missing Fafita (wish we had him). Not sure how Cordner was allowed back on but hope they keep picking him .... and Keary .... 🤪
Bring on game 2 then I am off to the Brisbane game, hopefully to see a whitewash. Just like 1995 ...... QUEENSLANDER!!!!!!!!!!

Ok been a busy day but here’s how it played out.
I met Brian at pob at 430pm luckily he was early because He thought we said 5 🤦🏼‍♂️
as any good decky would vouch for its expected you gather intel on fishing spots (Especially when your last few attempts have been unsuccessful) and that’s exactly what I did. Armed with this new information we headed to the wall. Full of excitement and anticipation we set up for the first drop. Right tide right spot and three hours later all we had to show was a couple of sharks caught by yours truly and a massive catfish and cat shark caught by Brian. It was nearing 9 and my excitement turned to despair as I discussed the fact that actually we are terrible fishermen who who are as cursed as this boat! And then.....
Wooshka ! Leo’s on! Good first run then just dead is wait as it ran towards the boat. At this stage I called shark and then as the beast surfaced I squealed with astonishment.....Brian! SNAPPER! Oh my god oh my god o can’t believe it! Brian whipped out the net and after a few nervous moments it was netted! 47cm (I actually think Brian’s ruler is wrong and it was 48) 😂 high fives were scaring the rest of the fish as I first pumped dropped to my knees and thanked the beautiful girl laying in front of me.

this has been a long term goal of mine since I joined this forum and I am so glad to have achieved! Now for an upgrade!

brian your a bloody legend so blessed that you allow me to decky for you and can’t thank you enough.

I got another soon after at about 30cm then it went quiet as we decided to call it a night.

u think Brian might have a new spot x but we might call it spot L.

Well my boy Tom and I explored the bay further the same day as @ellicat and @Old Scaley went out. Eventually ended up at Bulwer and found a spot worthy of further investigation. We only caught a undersized grassie and a few undersized squire but the bite was quite promising until the anchor decided to drag and we went off the spot. The wind suddenly decided to get up and we’d already been out for quite a few hours so we decided to start heading home. The other deciding factor was the ominous looking storm clouds brewing over Brisbane. There was no phone reception at Bulwer so we headed rather speedily down towards Tangalooma. I remembered that they have recently installed a repeater station at Tangalooma but I wasn’t sure whether it was for VHF, phones or both. Anyway, we got reception there and saw that at that stage a quite severe storm cell was heading straight across the bay. So, we decided to err on the side of caution and anchor behind the wrecks, along with quite a few other boats of all shapes and sizes. The storm cell ended up heading a bit north of us and we started heading home. Must say the bay wasn’t exactly a millpond by this stage, especially half way across when, for some reason, a nasty couple of metre swell with chop started coming from our port side while the main swell and chop was heading straight towards the river mouth! There were no banks nearby and we were in 20m plus water so not sure what caused that but after a fairly interesting few minutes we were past that. The boat handled it excellently so very happy with it.
Anyway, we had a good day with a bit of excitement thrown in.

With very little to report from my previous outings, other then a few undersized flathead, squire, grassies, and some oversized grinners, today was looking pretty much the same until a nice little schoolie took a swipe at a lightly weighted pilchard with a 5 0 suicide hook, and a half hitch around the tail that was intended for either a squire or a grassy,
the poor bugger foul hooked himself, and my rod holder was quick to spring into action securing him in place until I could tend to it.

He went 66cm, you can see the blood where the hook only just pinned him, not long after that, the other rod (that was intended for a mackerel) went off, it had a floating pillie on 4 0 gangs, but this time I got snipped, go figure huh?,
The action was short lived though, and the breeze began picking up a little bit earlier then predicted, so I just cruised back to the ramp happy to have 1 fish in the box for dinner.

Start with a clean bench top.
Use a nice soft rag and lay it out over the bench top. Have another rag for cleaning.
Take photos before you start removing parts, and keep taking photos each time you remove something.

Lay parts out in order of removal. Best to clean them when refitting.

Clean parts and housings as much as you can. Old grease goes hard after a while so it's good to clean it out as best you can.

I don't like grease. I only use oil. I service my reels fairly regularly though.
Diawa oil in the orange aluminium tube is my go to. If not then the "3 in 1" oil from Kmart or repco will do the trick.

Bearings will become notchy or could make a wereing noise when in motion. These bearings need to be replaced.
In spin reels the bail arm line roller is a common bearing that fails. They're very small. Also the instant anti reverse around the pinion gear is another common noise maker.
If you do remove the bail arm bearing be sure to use blue locktite on the bolt when reassembling.

Some hobby shops sell the bearings or you may be able to do an order through CBC or local tackle shop. Tackle warehouse are good to deal with for parts. I don't shop at the big corporate run enterprise that destroyed our local stores.
Be warned that they are pricey. Big bearings are cheap, small bearing are expensive.

    Don't over grease.
    You can't over oil.
Use good drag grease, even on dry drags.
Take your time and turn off any distractions.
    Don't drink and service.

@shaun1800 and I headed out at gentleman's hours from a very busy Port of Brisbane ramp this morning. Conditions were great and better than forecast. We arrived at spot x and deployed our lines, with Shaun opening the account with an unders squire. This was the theme for the day with grassies, squire, bream, tuskies and a fantail leatherjacket.
In amongst them were two decent hookups and one capture. Shaun, who was playing on 4lb line, locked horns with what we thought was going to be a snapper or mack. He played it like a champ and patiently brought it to the boat after some very good runs. I slipped the net under what turned out to be one of those clean silvery bay catfish. Disappointed, Shaun declined the offer of a photo, feeling a little deflated after the promising start.
About 15 minutes prior to this my 15lb setup got absolutely smashed. It reefed me before I could tighten the drag right up. I'm suspecting it was a good snap and was disappointed to wind in a roughed up leader.
So, tonight I'm heading back for the high tide to have another go with heavier gear. Who knows, I might be able to get my hook back.

The neighbour's grandchild is super keen for a fish so I'm taking him out this morning with some freshwater eels that I bought from Mr Bait.
Gonna try for some Mackerel first then do some shark fishing.
I will let you know if they have turned up yet.

    Hamish,
If your Dad is willing to drive to Deagon. You can have the one in my shed.
Bought it a year ago off gumtree to make it into a fishing trailer. Haven’t done anything with it, so might as well give it to someone who can get some use from it.

I love rating and micing. Very similar to crabbing.

    Bunnings sell these for mice.
It takes a while to catch them but they finally concede to the tempting bait inside.
A piece of choc chip cookie between the 2 doors gets them.

Get one of these for the rats.

For bait I use mars bar or chocolate chip cookies from the woollies bakery. Works quickly if there are rats around.
I have a big sheet of camping mozzie mesh that's all torn etc. I cut a 100mm square out and wrap the goodness up in this, then stab it on the hook inside. 100% catch rate because they have to work to get to the food.
And if you have toads just keep it slightly elevated ie. up on a piece of timber.

    Good luck.
