Jus curious if anyone has an idea on what a Penn Mariner Plus 5'9" 15-24 kg rod is worth , are they base models , medium of the range.. etc , cheers

ahh fair enough , is it suitable for live baiting in the river? castable off a jetty/bank? prolly not as much being 5'9"? ta

no idea RichH. I suspect it wouldn't be very casting friendly.

Way too heavy for the river unless you are after the biggest bull sharks. Not bad for a cheap offshore bottom bashing or trolling rod though.

ok fair enough , that makes sense , cheers lads , so for a live baiting setup that will allow me to cast an average distance , what length rod and what line rating should i be looking at , and if i was to get a baitrunner what size also , thanks in advance (wanting to chase threadies , cod , sharks , good size river fish)

I would go for a 7' long rod with a 4000 or 5000 sized reel loaded with 20lb or 30lb braid depending on which braid brand you go with.

Should stop most fish quite comfortably.

This one, in the 10 to 12kg 7 foot model would be more than big enough, and still quite castable. I've got one I use occasionally.

2500 to 6000 would do, I'd go 3500 to 5000 for best fit.

ok nice , yes i was thinking 4500 or so , that was before i saw Angus' threadie from kooka park vid , where he snared some beauties on a 3500 ..ive seen some 2nd handies on ebay , but they are boxless and no paperwork , there seems to be soo many models in each size also , tends to be a lil tricky , im guessing some have more bearings and better features than others , but im just a novice , bottom of the range will do me just fine
