Alright Mates! Pommy Kev Here!

Hello, chaps and chapesses! Emigrated from UK in July. I am a total novice fisherman except for a few days on a well stocked lake in Norfolk with $10 kid's poles, just for a larf!!! I've now got addicted, I've got a $35 Jarvis combo from Kmart and before my electrician ARTC/Licence comes through am fishing 3-5 times a week on a Creek up my way. Best haul was 4 Bream, 1 Whiting, 7 Toads in about 3hrs, kept nicking me bait though! All small. Most memorable catch; A small bream on a bit of Cheese Twisty crisp (chip?!) as I'd run out of bait! Pissed off the old timer up the way using fresh squid and not even getting a nibble! I'm just tending towards specialising in Bream, as I know they are there, so there must be some crafty old buggers about! (And I can't see me getting a boat anytime soon, what with me Chrysler + Going Fast in an Old Car obssession!) Just got a few floating/diving lures to try on Monday, can't wait! (Can't seem to find a Rapala wounded minnow that I keep reading about) I'm fed up with casting a whole white pilchard and it's gone before I can even take up the slack!!! Bit snaggy where I go so I'm hoping a top/diver will save some of me tackle! Anyway! That's enough of my wittering! I got a fish last week that I can't identify, nor does the internet help, or the old fisherman down the way, or the fat book of fish in Kmart. Will post it up soon, and also tax your brains on a good combo for Bream (on a lure, and bait/sinker) for under $150 for Xmas from me Moosus!

PS Some of the nomenclature for fishing is very hard for a novice to decipher, and there doesn't seem to be a lot of raw beginner advice on the internet, just an observation.

All the best,

Kev

Hi Gad! Just posted my mystery fish! Go take a look! Here's a good one, when updating your profile, as seems to be the most important thing to the web trolls, it won't let me cos I ain't been in an "open" whatever that is and I ain't registered me boat!!! Ha! Ha! Anyways, me likes are Drag Racing, Beer, Hot Milfs and Fishing, in that order. Unless my Hot Milf is at work, my drag car is moneyless, it's 11am and I've got to drive to my favourite hole...........Fishing Rocks!!! :P Ain't nuffink like watching Eagles take fish and KingFishers take fish while yer rod is motionless! Show offsB) !

Totally off topic........

I had a '69 Australian VE Valiant back in the UK, one of 60 imported new in 1970 for the UK market. It had a 318 V8 and a bit of Nitrous. I slightly modified it as you can see! I've bought a VG sedan over here for cruising, but eventually I will need a wagon or sedan to put my 358" Dodge ProCharger motor in and go racing with. Fishing is a much cheaper sport, for the moment;) [img size=500]http://www.australianfishing.com.au/media/kunena/attachments/legacy/images/small_taxi.jpg

ahh the memories, used to do a bit of that in me streeter, good times they were but started to get out of control lol, spending weekends under bonnets, still love the car scene though, you should pop up to acacia ridge sometime 1 friday night around 7 ish, the ol girl i had run a 10.10 at 136mph, and after racing i'd go fishing under the gateway in it, like i said, fun times, say NO to NOS... i thought fishing would be cheaper.. hhmmmmmm, not to sure about that..

damm straight car.... clean and good nic B)

Photos do it more justice, it was a bit rotten around the edges. Unfortunately due to it being known as "Kev's car" and with my 11.72@113mph 1/4 mile records for a 318 in Europe no one woud take it on. So I sold the drive line and loads of other bits then cut the shell up and scrapped it!!!!:(

Welcome Kev,

keep telling your fishing and life stories like that mate.great value. info galore available on this site. i was a novice a while back so the info you get is great when you are just starting out.I've never been into cars as such but i think if you get hooked on fishing like cars then it will be just as expensive if not more.

cheers

Went to WillowBank for Chrysler Day about 2 weeks after we arrived. Been to a few Chrysler runs and shows and I'm off to Warwick DragFest next weekend crewing on a VF small block stroker race car. Went to BCF to buy a tent today.......Of course I slipped a hardbody lure in as well! Still searching for a wounded minnow 7cm Rapala. Any leads? I'm near Wynnum.

Sweet VE Bommie! What donk?

  • 1 year later...

Ha! Ha! Just dug this up as I realised it was nearly 2 years of Fisho Fun for me! Things have changed a great deal for me since that first post, but for the better! Just about out of the Chrysler Scene now (still got the trusty VG though B) ). That post saying about the friends is way true! Have to thank you all for making a Pommy welcome and for all the advice and good times over the 24 months. I have a shed load of fun memories and dodgey photos and long may they continue to rack up. Me post count ain't too good for 2yrs though, eh? But if the count was how many good articles, tips and reports I've read and absorbed I'd be in the 10,000 league! Cheers! Roll on WaveBreak and my 2yr anniversary-ish! B)B)B)
