only time i use a ballon is to float the bait out with the wind or current, once i get the bait to the right spot i give the line a big tug and the baloon pulls free and the mullet does what it wants or i have a sinker holding it to the bottom with 2m of wire or more depending on the size of the sharks and where i am fishing.

ahhh me understand .. well land-based i've always used a weighted bait as the canal/river we are fishing needs it due to current and all shark fishing i've done from boats has been up in the whitsundays using a balloon. in both cases a wire trace of around 1.5 to 2m has been used with success. slab of flesh offshore and a live trevally in canals always seemed to get more interest
