fresh water bait in salt water

at risk of sounding stupid, i was wondering if anyone uses or has used fresh water baits, eg. shrimp, worms in salt water?

i tried fresh water mussles at bribe a few months back and got tones of bites but couldnt land anything

i was fishing in deception bay a few years back getting some nice whiting on top of the tide at night just off the beach..i was using live yabbies, but there was another fella and he was using garden worms..he got a few, so they do work but i reckon i caught 3 times as many as him using a salt water bait..

but fising can be weird, he still got good fishin on em

Flathead at Brunswick heads loved redclaw tails.Conversley saltwater yabbies are a good bait in a lot of freshwater dams.

when we fished tugun my sons used earth worms. got a couple small nibbles but nothing big. suffice it to say they lasted tops maybe 5 minutes in the salt. i myself have used night crawlers in the bays here in socal they do work for perch species but they dont live very long and most perch will hit it more often when they are alive and wriggling. hope it helps

Used to clean up on Bream down at Williamstown Victoria using live freshwater yabbies, used to catch a better class of fish than nippers. Have caught bream also on freshwater shimp and live Garden worms particularly near storwater drain inflows after a bit of rain

out west the best bait they use when bobbing is cooked whole prawns. i hope they get them for free, cos u'd see my hand in the bait bucket most of the day if i was paying for them!
