I had a great day in the bay on Christmas eve - best day in 12 months easily!

We had some nice snapper (at least for the bay), but heaps of smaller snapper which IMO is great to see!

The interesting part came towards the end of the session when I hooked two big fish, and for the first time ever, on big gear (well, big for me anyway!! )

The first took plenty of line and then my gang 5/0's pulled out! ....gutted.

I went back in and the same again, but played this one for 10 mins, before it screamed off (burnt my thumb!), spooled me and broke the leader (40lb black magic). I'm wondering if the intitial fish was a nice snapper, and it was taken by a shark or other preditor? (I have seen sharks in the area!) ...or that the fish didn't even realise it was hooked for the first 10 mins??

What do you recon it was?

Oh, had a good time. It must be taken by a shark. Poor fisherman..

Did it break the leader or did it break when you got to the end of the line? If it broke it probably a shark. Probably a shark anyway, nothing else really big enough to do that in the bay.

Sounds like a good session despite the mystery fish. Better luck next time! Does sound sharky to me.
