hey all. my name is michael, im a youth worker, i work with seriously dissadvantaged kids, the organisation i work for wants me to create a recreational program based around fishing. i was hoping some1 might know of some good websites, dvds or even baitshops that could help me find some information or tutorials on how to learn to fish, mainly aimed at kids. i am trying to put it together myself but its a bit harder than i had first anticipated.

also i am only fairly new to the brisbane area. if any of you could list some child friendly fishing locations, that would be great.

thanks alot.

Yeah absolutely.

Would love to help out if given the chance mate.

But as a short term answer to your questions.

Kid Friendly Fishing Locations:

* Kookaburra Park

* Colleges Crossing

* Kangaroo Point Cliffs

* Nudgee Beach/ Kedron Brook

* Baroon Pocket Dam

* Hinze Dam

* Wivanhoe Dam

Mate also a special point of interest. Steve Wilkes runs Guided Fishing Tours at Hinze Dam. These are super child friendly and he often does school groups. Many of us here use Steve trips a fair bit and they are absolutely tops. Plus the infrastructure is all there. Just a thought.

Please let me know what else i could help out with?

Most DVD's you will find out there are about lures and stuff. Thats becuase they are made or at least funded by that particular lure company.

However if you managed to track down episodes of Rex Hunt this could be the go. Not everyone is a big Rex Hunt fan i know, however you will find the majority of his segments are both bait related and kid friendly.

Otherwise any of the specialist sotres always have a range of DVD's. It would just be a matter of searching through them to find the suitable ones.

Tackle World stores have a free DVD their handing out at the moment made from the guys off t.v. called IFISH. The DVD talks mainly about all the different types of rods and reels that the shop sells but for each one they feature it tells you what to use that particular rod and reel for and each segment is shot at a different location catching different types of fish. You may find it informative in the type of gear you need and rigs to use for the fishing you want to do. Just head to your local Tackle World store and ask for the DVD. Who knows if ya tell them what it's for they might give you a copy for each kid? Worth asking seeing that their giving them away.

www.tackleworld.com.au

Or there is a link at the top of the page to find your local store.
