Sweet Coomera

Took the boat out last night for it's first trip on the murky waters of the Coomera river (and it's 4th trip overall) after years of fishing the area landbased :side:

Decided to put the time in just one spot and managed to pick up an interesting variety of critters during the night.

First to come along was this brown sweetlip which gave a bit of stick along the rockwall. It was a first for me and was impressed with it's dogged fight and the huge shoulders on the fish.

Up next was this little flattie which took the live herring on the drop, and had our hopes up, before it became a bit of wet sock on the way to the boat.

Afterwards, we had a couple of unstoppables on the light bream gear before we upped the ante and coaxed this little painted sweetlip from it's pontoon. Again very strong dogged runs to the structure and had the certate singing for most of the battle.

For the next hour and a half we probably would have been bricked at least 5 times close to the structure and lost a decent cod boatside after all the hardwork had been done to turn it's head. Did manage one little cod in all the excitement but wasn't anywhere near in the same category of brutes that had us re-rigging. :(

All fish bar the flathead (couldn't resist) were released.

Cheers for the comments everyone. It was good getting out on the water after everything that had happened in SEQ.

where you up the mouth end or the weir end ?? how was the water quality ??? Great bag nice to see the rivers still producing !!! Though for a while there i may never fish again with all the fresh !!!

This was toward the mouth. Water quality was okay during the run in at least and saw a bit of bait going around so good signs of improvement.
