52cm onemile bass and great scenery

Got up at 5.20am this morning with the idea of getting onto, some Bass in my local spot. Got down there just before day break. But the fog meant that the light came out slowly and it was dull. I tried all sorts of hard bodies, poppers and soft plastics with beetle spin, with only one looker and no strikes.

At about 7.30am, I thought I might try another spot I know of. As the water where I was, was about one foot lower than it has been, I decided to head upstream near a small weir I know of. I cant fish from my side of the weir but if it is safe to cross I may get onto some fish, from the other side.

After a few minutes drive in the car I headed down to the weir. There was about 4 inches of water going over the weir, the crossing below looked too dangerous, the rocks were all slimey. I decided to try crossing the wall itself. I had my gumboots on, which are off and old set of horne waders and they gripped the surface very well, so across I went.

Wall itself

I got across, and had a lot of casts, with no luck, so I decided to head downstream, I found a gauge that the floods had washed through the river bank, giving access to a new area. Here are some new photos of some fishy looking snags.

The going was a bit rough, but I saw some great spots. Started heading back around 8.30am casting all the way, but no more takers below the weir. Had a few casts above the weir and got a hold of the Bass, its was nerve racking stuff, fighting this fella on 6 pound braid, amongst the snags. When I finally got him in, I was stoked to measure him at 52cm, my new PB

A couple of casts later and a nice little silver.

Had a great mornings exercise again and also had a great feed of fish for Good Friday.

I usually let everything go, but I wanted to see how they tasted, so took them over to the inlaws for lunch, my father inlaw cooked them up, and what a feast, we totally enjoyd them.

Thanks for reading.
