hey

got my sounder all set up yesterday, havnt gotten it in the water yet as the boats not ready. but i turned it on and the transducer started clicking which i know is normal but it didnt show a reading it was just a straight line at the top of the screen didnt say depth or anything just a single line at the very top of the screen, i dont know if a sounder is ment to show a reading out of water or does it play up when not in the water. all help would be appreciated :)

cheers ryan

Don't risk stuffing your transducer by trying to use it out of water.

what brian said seems spot on. the transducer can actually get quite hot when used out of water, when i was first fiddling with my install i was surprised and read into it a bit further and many people have reported damage.

this is why most sounders have a simulation mode if you want to have a play in the garage. ticking sound is also normal for some models (my humminbird does it), just have a google around to see if others report likewise.

cheers
