new combo, what to buy ????

Got a $1000 to spend on New combo I do spend a lot of my time offshore but do spei a bit of time in the bay ,

Get yourself a heavy plastics combo. Something like a certate and a nitro viper rod.

or if your more into bait fishing get yourself a sweet overhead combo. Maybe a shimano talica 8 or 12 and gary howard gforce rod. Light enough to fish all day and very castable, but enough power to stop AJ's red emperor.

lol if you spend lots of time offshore I suggest a jigging outfit, its expensive but heaps of fun

I have one, not a bad unit, take the time to set it up right and it will be ok, I wish I had of saved the extra and got a lowrance HDS though, they seem like a bit better unit to me.

Whatever combo you get make sure you get a decent transducer.

The best head unit will still be completey useles with some of the standard, included transducers.

As a bare minimum get a 600w RMS tranny.

I agree too. If you have been fishing for years and already have spots it might not be as bad but it looks like they are great for exploring new spots. They supposedly only have good images to 30 metres but can still be useful deeper. Most of the higher end hummys it comes included, Lowrance I think it is still an add on.

If you already have the card, look at getting one from OS, I payed a good $500 less than that...
