Hey everyone,

Hoping to head to Jacob's well this weekend with the boat but have never been before. Looking for some tips on bait/lures, spots and techniques to hopefully go for some flathead and tailor if possible.

If your launching from the vmr straight oppersite is good for bream and flathead. Anywhere in the main channel is good for fish. Get to the ramp early or you will be waiting a while. Best bait i find are top side steak , blood worms , peeled prawns and mullet gut

Whalleys gutter has a good yabbie bank to pump some good live yabbies then fish it just on the edge of the sand bank for flathead keep your baits moving slowly for flathead and use a big enough sinker to just keep you on the bottom. Work your baits off the bank over the edge into the deeper water slowly with both yabbies and frog mouth pilchards and or white bait.

You should get tailor just around the corner from there in Tiger mullet channel in the deep water using pilchards keep one on the bottom and have one with no sinker drifting in the current if no luck there you can try the corner of Crusoe islnd right next to the yellow marker

hey Nick - If you use some jerk shads like Damiki Armor shads 3" and 5" (1/4 jig head) work the flats on high tide and rising tide and work the drop offs on the falling tide and low tide. Any of the banks around there hold good Flatthead. good luck mate

Sorry guys I appreciate the advice but i have no idea where vmr or whalleys gutter or tiger mullet channel is because I have never been to the area so please help me out.

VMR is the volunteer Marine Rescue depot beside the main ramp at Jacobs Well as for Tiger Mullet and Whalleys, I have highlighted the two channels and two of my fav spots down there.
