Help! Tailor on SP's?

I have tried numerous times recently to catch Tailor using SP’s with no success. Off the beach I think the problem Is you just can’t get them out far enough. But I have tried recently off rock walls I know hold tailor without even a hit from my targeted species. I know I could just bring out the Slugs, but I’ve done that a lot recently and want to mix things up. I know it must be possible so I must be doing something wrong.

I have been mainly using big plastic, e.g. 4†atomic Shad in a silver and a 3/8 jig head.

Any ideas on what I’m doing wrong guys?

Has anyone been catching tailor on SP’s? if so what SP+jighead?

i got a few at peel the other day fishing for squire, tailor are one of the least fussy fish, the main reason would be there just were no fish where you lure was. from the boat often a few fish will be following a hooked up one, if you can bring a school closer by slugging first try dropping a plastic out behind a hooked one.

me and a mate have got a few recently in the noosa river, we have got them on 5\" gulp jerk shads in pink. we were using 1/6th to 1/4 heads with 2/0 hooks. like mackmaulersaid if they are there plastics should nail some

What style of retrieve is best? I’m used to a pretty fast retrieve with a slug, I’m not sure this would work with a plastic.

I usually cast the plastic out let it sink right to the bottom wait a few seconds then give it a couple of quick flicks with the wrist let it sink back down and sit for a good 5 seconds then repeat all the way back to your feet. hope this helps
