Most efficient way of disposing of 10 litres of fuel.

As the title suggests, I need to dump 10l of pre-mixed fuel from a tank.

The wife isn't keen on letting it evaporate from a bucket... :dry:

The dump is probably the best bet, otherwise most mechanics these days have waste oil drums that are picked up by recyclers, maybe they can help.

I was definitely thinking weed killer but not sure of the long-term effects on soil quality...

Sumo oil used to be good at killing weeds and it is residual, however EPA would have your balls in a basket if they found out nowdays. However I have seen many running tracks in residential areas using sump oil.

Petrol has a fairly low flashpoint, so I would not be spreading it around your house.

If it was a litre or two, I'm sure I could disburse enough to evaporate pretty quickly but 10 litres of 50:1...

I'll do the right thing and dump it.

Anyone know the nearest waste centre/dump to Rochedale that would take it?

10 years ago fuel was around 0.50c/L. Nowdays fuel is fast reaching $1.50 p/l. At nearly triple the price it does seen logical that you would find a suitable use rather than just throwing it away. I am occassionally tempted to spread used Mobil 1 EP as a deterrent to weeds.

Do you own a lawn mower? You can use it in that.

I had 30L of pre-mix from my old boat engine and I used it my lawn mower over a 12 month period.

You could also throw it in your car with a full tank of fresh fuel.

I have no idea how to dump fuel but i have a way to reduce wastage. I always calculate the fuel to be use for the trip and bring extra 5-10 litre fuel on top up tanks . Any fuel in the extra tank that is not mixed will go into my car.. I use some old fuel to clean rusty stuff like pliers etc...

Yeah cheers boys. Even if I fill up the mower, hedger, trimmer and blower I'll still have several litres left.

I'm gonna make a visit to the neighbours this morning and see if they can use some.

You dont want to wake up the poor soul, but pouring it under his door might be a bit to hazardous, and whilst a community service, get you locked up. So can I suggest pouring it it all over their front lawn.

you could put it in my boat im sure if its mixed with 200ltr + fresh fuel it would be ok that 10ltr would give me a extra 10 - 15 minutes on the water

I finally finished 120 litres of premix that had a bit of water in it from a bad fill in my boat about 5 years ago. Ran it through the mower, whipper snipper, blower and chainsaw for 5 years without a problem. Now i am back to actually buying fuel for the tools again....sorta looking forward to the next time i get water in the boat fuel.....premix fuel it lasts for years for use in garden tools.
