queensland Caboolture River 30/05/2015 Fish off

How good was the weather on Saturday!

7am start for a fish off against me and my partner vrs. the future in-laws.

Dropped some pots off, with no luck.

Plenty of bream. Biggest was 36cms, most were the 28 to 30 mark. If they were just legals they were going back.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Jagged a Spanish Mackerel in the mouth of the river, Chole also jagged a 1 kilo mullet on a bit of pillie, it absolutely smashed it.

Whilst I did a great job on the bream, Chole did well to managed to catch Yellow Tail pike which combined with the chopper tailor were in plague proportions. (very annoying)

The Sunrise photo we took in the morning is a cracker, if anyone wants the original it makes a great wallpaper.

Fog was thick past bakers flats, so we got stuck up there for a bit whilst we waited for it to lift.

Wow what a photo!!! So good. Nice catch too

Don't think its a Spanish. Looks like a Grey (or Broad Barred) mackerel to me but I'm not certain. They can be seen smashing up bait in the shallows this time of year out in the bay.

Good to see the fish are around in the river. Those yellow tail pike are known as poor mans whiting and do cook up all right, they are also fun to catch on light gear as they make a good account of themselves.

Nice haul of fish there mate and good variety too. Yep, looks like it's a grey mackerel https://www.daf.qld.gov.au/fisheries/species-identification/inshore-estuarine-species/mackerel-and-tuna/grey-mackerel

Min size 60cm and bag limit of 5 for future reference. Pretty cool catching it amongst mangroves - bet you got a surprise!!

No big female bream, give it a few more weeks, but I'm yet to have a bad session in the river.

I actually thought the mullet was another mackerel it was fighting just as hard.

I foul-hooked one at the poop schute in the river mouth on a lure and boy it went hard - similar size to that one.
