I haven't put up any reports since Easter mainly because I'm too lazy and partly because I always forget to take photos.  Below is a quick summary of my fishing adventures with the kids over the past few months. I apoligse in advance for the lack of pics.

Easter - Poona Family Fishing Competition

We headed up to my parent's holiday house at Poona to be welcomed by gale force winds.  There was no hope of fishing the straits so on the first morning we headed up Swan Creek.  Ended up with a nice flathead, tailor, gar and a few bream.  Weighed in my flatty (5 grams under) and tailor (50g under).  My son weighed in his bream and gar and was in the lead for both categories.   My daughter and mother both won random draws on the first night for anyone who had weighed in a fish.

Second day still very windy so this time headed up Poona Creek.  Got a few nice whiting and bream.   My son ended getting beaten in the bream and gar categories at the last minute, but ended up with the largest whiting.  He was very pleased with himself.

Crabbing - Pumicestone Passage

Hopes were high.  7 pots = zero crabs  oh the disappointment

Toorbul Fishing Comp (April) - Pumicestone Passage

Fished the mouth of Coochin Creek using Yabbies.   Picked up a nice feed of whiting and bream.  Ended up with the largest whiting at the weigh in and my son won the jnr members draw.

Mooloolaba Offshore - 19/5/18

I wanted to take advantage of the good conditions this weekend so I cancelled golf and arranged for my neighbour to be deckie.  Got the Mooloolaba coast guard ramp at 6:30 and the entire car park was full.  There was also an outrigger comp on and the ramp was pretty crazy.

We fished Inner Gneerings, Outer Gneerings and the Mooloolaba Blinker for a few undersized reef fish.  The conditions weren't as good as I thought they would be with a bit of swell and what seemed like wind chop on top (even though there was no wind).  It reminded me of moreton bay when the wind picks up.  The current was really quick so we gave up on drifting.  We came back in front of Alex and followed some birds.   We came across a line in the water from dark to lighter coloured water (no depth change).  The birds were all flying along this line and we picked one mackerel on each of the three drifts across it.

Toorbul Fishing Comp (May) - Pumicestone Passage

An early start this morning for another Toorbul Comp.

Fished a little further south around Hussey Creek.  Used yabbies and fresh mullet for bait.  Another good feed.  Final tally 6 bream, 2 tarwhine, 1 flatty and a whiting.  I again ended up with the largest whiting (3 months in a row).

What happens in the passage when you go a little bit out of the channel

He was traveling along very quickly when he hit it.  It left the fibreglass boat high and dry.  It took four blokes to move it.

That is such a great thing for kids to get into. You always seem to come home with a top feed.

I like the idea of a lucky prize draw for everyone that measures a fish after the first day. I will put that into the Wynnum Fishing Classic.that is on 12th to 14th October.

:)

Thanks for a great read.
