Fishing The Passage 17/6/18

With the final day of the Suburbs of Origin coinciding the June Monthly Comp for the Toorbul Fishing Club I was able to get out to a wet a line.  A cold start to the morning meant it was hard to get out of bed, but we got to the boat ramp around 6:15am to find a lot of the sand banks already exposed (low at 9:30am).  We skipped across a few sand bars in the low light and had to lift the motor on a few more but we got down to Hussey Ck without any dramas.  We fished a drop off from 0.9m to 2.1m and the fish were biting straight away.

We didn't catch an undersized fish in the first three hours, which was a pleasant surprise from the undersized pickers that are normally around.  we picked up all our fish in this one spot other than a few flathead we got in some ripples about 50m away in the entrance to Hussey Ck.  All were caught on live yabbies.

Off to the weigh in and my son won his junior section, I won 'B' Grade and also got the heaviest 3 species.  Ended up with $70 cash and also won the meat tray in the raffles.  More importantly I was able to add a couple of upgrades to Northside's Tally and help them in their dominant round one win.  One productive day!

If anyone on the northside is looking for a good family focused fishing club the Toorbul Club is always looking for members.  More info can be found on their Facebook page.

Finally a pic of 2 of the 3 snapper weighed in.  All caught in the lower end of the passage.  @Drop Bear might be a sign that the oyster beds are already working.

Top family day, Doyley. Worth a few early shivers. Did you pump the yabbies on the day ?

No mate, got them the afternoon before. They can be a little hard to pump in the middle of the passage so I go down to Toorbul where they are plentiful.

I hope you are right mate. Thats a great day's fishing. Do you know if the snapper were caught at the oyster reefs? I'd love to tell a few of the people that have installed them if they had been.

Unsure if they caught them from the oyster reefs.  I reckon they where caught nearby, because even before the oyster reefs were placed the ripples out from Pacific Harbour was a known snapper spot for in the passage
