queensland Saturday’s Sandie Hunt

Hadn’t been fishing for aaaaages and crabbing for even longer so decided to go hunt some sandies as we’d heard they were around, woke up early on Saturday and headed out with our pots and a bit of bait for a fish in between soaks. Baited up our pots and set our first drops then decided to anchor and fish for a while and let the pots do the work. Good call it was as not long after anchoring our mate has hooked to an absolute beast which somehow he managed to get of the bottom but sadly he wigged out a bit and the fish turned his head and rubbed him off on the reef. Not long after I’m hooked up to something solid and this thing I New if I could land it, twas gonna be a horse. And right I was after a tense battle up comes my pb bluey which weighed 12.2 kgs and went 82cm 

after this we went to check pots and See how they were going. We kept moving our pots around for a few more hours then anchored up again as massive rain front was closing fast. After we got drenched by the scud we pulled pots and headed for home. Even managed a legal spanner crab in our pots. Disappointed tho as we lost two brand new pots. We laid our pots where there were absolutely no pots at all  and returned to our gps mark to find both of the pots missing and a commercial blokes float right where ours had been which was 100% not there when we dropped . Any way that’s all part of crabbing I guess but I’m pretty dirty about it. All in all still a great day with a good feed and stoked with my new pb! Even after I had scoffed down on sandies and parrot all weekend I thought it’d be rude not to head Down to Wynnum today and pig out on some prawns oysters and bugs. Well done to all the people from this site for putting together such a great event I never expected it to be so massive a great turnout indeed.

Yeah no finessing here fish as heavy as u can or you’ll end up In tears.

Great stuff. A saw the crabbers around Mud in the morning. 

As I'm mainly a fly fisho I suck at bait fishing. Biggest was a 25cm Tusky my son caught

I did get lost lol, I had to ring my mates like three times just to find them.

Jon you are a star mate. Amazing fish. I would love some tips on how, where, tides, gear etc. I have never caught a decent tusky and super keen to. 

I have fished in the shallows around bird and Goat with small live crabs on a 2/0 hook as well as Myora Light and the coffee rocks in Rainbow channel. I have only ever used a hand line. We used sand from where we caught the crabs as burley.
