Flathead Rod

Currently have a Shimano Raider 7" 1-4kg 2-10g which I really like but looking at getting a 2nd heavier rod more for flathead and fish other than bream. Hoping to get better casting distance mainly throwing soft plastics from around 1/8oz - 3g maybe up to about 1/2oz - 14g (maybe more) usually running 8-10lb braid. What are some recommendations up to $300?

  • Land based estuary - around 7" - 2 piece - 2-4kg or 3-5kg - go more medium/light or medium? guessing fast action - soft plastics up to 1/2oz

Was looking at the Shimano Zodias and Daiwa Black Label V2 rods but realised they only come in 1 piece....maybe the Shimano T-Curve or Dialuna BS but open to other brands

Atomic arrowz estuary series have a good blank for soft plastic fishing I have a bream surface arrows rod and it’s very excellent the estuary model is heavier and better for casting bigger plastics though both are great rods. It’s not a $300 rod though it’s a fair bit cheaper but has the same quality as those more expensive rods . I don’t have a zodias rod but they seem nice to but overall I would get the atomic arrows estuary rod in 6-12lb

What about a Wilson Live Fibre? I bought a 10’ 6” one for around $220. The identifiers on it are RLF 42/2 10’ 6 spin, cast 25g, sinker 1-40g, braid 8-15 lb. It is a two piece and would be fantastic for bream and flathead.

I think airofu is after something more suited for bream and flathead fishing last time I checked 10’+ rods that cast 40G lures wore meant for beach and rock fishing . That’s why I mentioned the atomic arrows 3-5kg rods cause there are designed to handle those bigger flathead and they have light crisp blanks which is perfect for flicking plastics
