Inline Fuel Filter Water Separator - When to replace

I have one of these filters in my boat but i've never really looked or done anything with this or the water release valve. It wasn't touched at the last annual service.

Question - How often does the filter element need to be replaced? Google results vary widely from 50hrs to 200hrs.

In the US seems they replace it more frequently due to a high prevalence of ethanol.

Mine gets replaced every service (12 months).

Carry a spare filter in your safety gear.

I'd change it every 6mths depending on usage.

If you do it yourself, be sure to fill the new filter with fuel before fitting.

Yeah that’s the plan, Thanks for the tip. I’m sure doing this will help achieve prime much quicker.

Not something I’ve thought of….keeping a spare on board, have you ever had to pull your spare out mid trip?

Not on the water, but you get clogged filters on land,

what happens if you get dirty fuel at sea, I reckon

that spare filter would be a blessing.
