Sounders for spearfishing

Hey guys I have been working lots and i nearly have got my full setup done. Trust me I will get it done by christmas. My dad and another spearfishing mate of mine were gonna go at some gps marks but we do not have a sounder to see if there is any bait action down on the bottom looking for a cheap sounder that can do its jup preferably under 300$ any ideas?

cheers so if i see a big pile of things it is bait

It depends on what the bait is. Offshore you will find bait 'balls' where you will see very fine dots all clumped together in a ball or some tight definable shape. This usually means the baitfish are small - like hardyheads/herring etc

Larger baits will show up as lines on or close to the bottom (if that's where they are).

Best to go slow over the ground and keep an eye on the sounder.

You will learn to identify what the sounder shows and relate it to a specific type of bait.
