What Leader for Tailor?

Hi fella's, just wondering what size leader is best for tailor, i was thinking about 30lb but what do u guys think?

that depends on size of pillie your using we use 4by3/0 for the big pillie and 3by3/0 for smaller pillie so size of pillie you want a hook to go in next to tail of pillie and work up so as last hook with your line in it goes through the eyes of pillie;) the tailor always seem to go for the pillie down the tail end though:cheer: al

Dunno bout everyone else, but I use triple ganged 4/0's they just seem to fit through the bigger pillies better.

30lbs will be fine to use for tailor with the addition of ganged hooks but remember to keep a check on the condition of the leader after each fish.

I've never found the need to use any leader when using gangs. I rig the pillies with the head facing the rod, so like Al says, they generally get hooked on the lower hooks:)

I've never been bittin off with gangs (<---- probs just jinxed myself tho:D)

yeah i havent caught many tailor but i got one on a popper that woulda been in the 50's on 16lb flurocarbon that came back unscathed is that cause i was using a lure you think?

There is no need for a true leader if you are fishing with ganged hooks. My most usual rig is a gang tied straight to the main line (mono) of usually 12lb or 20lb depending on whether I am fishing the bay or beach.

Those times when you start getting off with gangs is when they are hitting anything that moves, including sinkers, swivels, weed caught on knots etc and a second fish is snipping the first off.
