Sunday 26/10 incoming tide in the afternoon caught a

small Jew fish (i think)

and a small squire (i think)

and a few toad fish then we went Friday 31/10 at night on incoming tide and caught cat fish ,cat fish and more cat fish.some big buggers too.so they where fun.

The first fish is called a Little Jewfish/River Perch (only slightly different to a normal Jewie, but the same family or genus, something like that)

Second fish is just a Bream, slightly deformed, but stil a Bream:)

were you at the pontoon on mt ommaney road, or the one near the skate park/DFO?

the DFO pontoon,the boat ramp and pontoon on mt ommaney road is to busy with ski boats in the day time,haven't checked it at night yet.

i thought it was a bream but mate said mite be squire so i was at a loss, lol. one of the kids caught it was fun for them .i got the Little Jewfish/River Perch is was fun to get too.

yeah heaps of little river perch around that area

we caught 20+ in a session just up from there once before on frozen servo prawns

only small though

that 1 was about 38 cm, i was useing servo prawns too.what size do they have to be to keep / can u eat them or are they yuck,or what are the called in the dpi site ? ty for any info

Yeah it has the head profile of a jew; it's not as snubby as a river perch. Any idea on how big those river perch grow though?

look at the gill plates of the fish in the photos, the river perch has a spike like bass or barra, a jewfish doesn't so davo dinkums fish is a real jew

It`s a juvenile Jew,the further up your rivers,you catch them,the more you can be sure your river system is getting back to good health.
