queensland mud island etc 21/01

Thinking of attempting to get out to Mud island since i haven't been there since winter.

Anyone have an idea of how much swell the bay would have? I am in a flat bottom 3.95, so when its choppy it gets a bit bumpy.

Otherwise i might hit the coomera river or something.

Looks like the tide will be on it's way out from around lunchtime, so if you're back in by then it looks like a great day for it.

Should have gone today, Jeremy. That whole area was like a millpond until lunchtime. I didn't have any luck with the fishing, though, just a couple of pinkies and a small flathead. Only keeper was a couple of squid which we used for bait anyway. Good luck when you go out.

Ill be looking at it tomorrow, make a call on what i see i guess. otherwise a troll through boggy and maybe drop some livies in deeper water for something.

Went out today, little bit lumpy but tolerable till 1ish.

caught a small catshark and then saw a big school of something being chased on the southern end of mud is.

Tryed to follow it but they dissapeared, looked like decent sized herring or similar, not too sure.

dolphins were everywhere, saw 20+ at once.

a few 25-30cm squire and heaps of 15 and under. couple of grassys, no size to them though. all on mullet strips.

Where do people normally hang around for fish at mud? looking at anchoring up a bit more tomorrow as i will have two others in the boat and they won't want to drift so much.

Im heading offshore tomorrow in search of mackies,mate that boil you saw may have been mackies or mack tuna..Sounds like you had a good day..Good luck for tomorrow champ

Cheers, would have been sweet to track them but by the time i got the lines in they were gone. no birds following them either.
