yoyo
Finally got out to palm Reef for my first attempt ata Mackeral in the Kayak this morning. Conditions were excellent as I launched from Burleigh Beach, even having the opportunity to ogle a few dirty dishes on their way home (or someones home....!) after a looonnngg night out... Trolled a few lures out and around the headland and south to the reef. The blue bottles were thick out past the breakers, so hope no-one at the beach later got stung too bad. Nothing on the troll, the boats were thicker than the jellies at palm reef, it was a parking lot ! I positioned myself at the north edge and decided to drift with a slow norhterly current away from the herd rather than anchor up. Switched to an unweighted pillie with a stinger in the tail and flicked around various SP's while waiting. The first hit'n'run came quick but the fish dropped it after 15 seconds or so. Bit of a wait for the 2nd one but it was an absolute belting and I thought i was in like flynn.... but no.....dropped it after 45 secs or so.... 3rd one was a flyer, barely registered the drag but succeded in an instant bite off. Switched to a 30cm wire trace after that but got no more hits. didnt look like anyone else was on to much either, and nothing on the SP's. My first donut in a while ! that sucks......... Leighton
It was a funny morning Yoyo, we did see quite a few Yaks Marty and I met Bri pretty early and headed to the carpark, where ego's and testosterone were at an all time high. The macks came through in small schools with the odd boat getting multiple hook ups then a long time between drinks. Our first hook up saw a decent mack boat side after a few good runs, ready to be pinned but the hook pulled on the wire trace. A second run saw a similar outcome then the third from under a balloon was a clean bite off through the wire. No fish landed but a great day and some valuable lessons learnt

mick fillet
perfect conditions for the yak ay. I was coming back in from a night fishing out wide around 6:00am decided to swing in and check out all the action. there was no action hapening on palmy I think the macks had all ready been through. The water was rougher and chopier at palm reef then it was 80km off shore. Pitty about the donut yoyo but thats how it goes somtimes. the macks were there and hundreds would have got caught earlier on at first light because there were more than 200 busted off bolloons floating north of palmy and my deckies netted hundreds of little pieces of square foam floats.Iam absolutly discusted in all those fellow fisherman who contributed to this litter. did you see all the litter from the boats yoyo? Bri The Pom
Leighton thanks for the escort over the bar and good to meet you both all but breifly. Got to the reef just after you guys dropped anchor and was drifting back on to a guy who was not happy and rather abusive so it was clear my anchor rope was not long enough,so i moved to shallow water. But i also had no action and no fish.A few lessons learnt and will make a few changes and try again next week. Cheers Bri. Mick i also saw the amount of rubbish floating past disgracefull.
