Keeping up the fine form.....

Went fishing again around runaway bay at the previous mangrove jack hot spot....Now only to find that it is a flathead and bream hot spot too!!!! 1st day back to work on tuesday which usually is our busy day as we deliver around brisbane and then down to the goldie... However work was slow and we ended up having our lines in at 7:30pm!!!!

Bait was hard to come by but eventually landed some good small mullet. Chucked out 2 rods with live mullet, one close to the bridge and the other way down the beach. Had been looking on google earth and down from the bridge there looked to be some real deep water running along a shallow sandy/rocky bank!!!! The tide was right out and the action was slow.....but.......as soon as that tide started changing it fired big time.

The bait near the bridge got smashed by something, the line peeled off the reel then "ping", "snap" line broken!!!!! $#%@!!!! We guessed at it being a mangrove jack??!! While this was going on the bream fired up... In total we caught 24 bream in the 2hrs smallest going prob 15cm and the biggest was a horse at 37cm!!!!! Most of the bream were at least 25cm plus.

As home time neared and the bream slowed off the bite our lone ranger rod with the live mullet down the beach went screaming off......... The fight was hard and felt like a stingray with a dead weight feeling, but there was def some life in this fish!!! Dead weight then blistering run, dead weight then run!!!!!! Picked it for a big cod but to our surprise...FLATHEAD!!!! The flathead went 68cm and weighed 1.8kg

All up 24 bream, 1 flathead and 3 pike(On poppers). Only took the flatty and three bream home 4 the BBQ, could not resist!!!!! Also 2 big squid in the cast nets... Salt n pepper calamari!!! ohh right!!!

Real good mid week session... Caught some of the bream on sp's so next week will try much harder!!! Any particular plastics doing the damage for any of you all at the momment???

Cheers Schilling

nice session, thanks for the report. for bream in the runaway bay area you cant go past gulp shrimp and minnows, as well as river2sea baby vibes when going vertical and ecogear px45s on the surface. as dostylz says, "finesse". USe a light leader, i start with 6lb then go down to 4lb if theres no bites
