Went fishing offshore at Forster this morning (report to come)

Caught this little fella at the FAD on a 4" flick bait.

Very slimy, very sharp tail scoots and lots of teeth.

Was released unharmed. Any help with the ID would be appreciated

Silver, The FAD is no where near any shorelines with the kind of structure you would associate with blacks

we originally thought drummer as well but the scoots and teeth threw us off that track

1 thing I know it's not a drummer silver or black but I think madmullet may be on to somthing trev or related

It kind of looks like aa knife jaw but they are only caught on the shelf. How deep was the water around the fad?

Jsut had a quick look and it is very similar to the knifejaw (Oplegnathus woodwardi) ...

We head back north on Sunday. I'll be hitting the lakes a cpl of times before we leave. will let you know when we have some definate times to see if you are available

Water was at about 80m and around 23-24 degrees.

Taken a pic around to Barclay marine and no-one there knows either.

Could I have discovered an unknown fish. Maybe this will be my claim to fame!!!!
