Catfish fishing

do u guys reckon i should be targeting catfish with lures and sps or bait? and what ypes of lures or sps or bait should i be using. cheers

I have always wondered whether you could ever catch them on a lure. As for sp's, i have tried the \"Gulp Nuclear Chicken\" and they didn't go for that. Joel.

I have caught 1 on a Gulp!, but any bait such as prawns, fish fillets etc that is anchored to the bottom will catch way too many

I find I get heaps on pilchards when fishing for sharks. Even the small ones will take the pilchard on a set of 4/0 gangs!!

a reasonable size piece of mullet fillet on a single 4/0 - 6/0 hook will weed out a lot of the smaller ones

yeah tru ive only ever caught 1 catfish and that was on sausage. so hahah yeah they must take anything.

Mate you are right they will take anything..cockroaches of the waterways is what they should be called. Left over meat, worms, prawns, anything at all that is meaty, have caught a small one on a bibless minnow so they will take lures as well.

the mouth of breakky creek fishing for jew, the catties take every bait we use..live mullet, banana prawns, whole squid....i reckon you could put a treble on ya car keys and get one some days......i used to kill em all..but now i let them go...not there fault they suck...and they are native..

Caught 1 a few weeks back on half a pilly.

Catties also like Tassie devils dragged along the bottom...

Strange creatures those Catfish should have been called \"Dogfish\" the noise they make sounds more like its barking rather then meowing...:S

i have caught i catty on a 3\" powerbait in the brisbane river while fishing for bream pretty much they will eat anything

Andrews brother caught a catty in upper brissy river on suface lure trying to catch bass he thought it was a trophy bass but no such luck,I've caught them recently on squid at the mouth of bulimba creek

I unfortunately catch more catfish in the river than anything else lately.

I can normally expect 5 or 6 over a 2 hour period on pilchards with 6/0 gangs. Largest is 55cm to date.
