Question, Barra in closed season?

Have a couple of trips planned chasing jacks in waters that have been producing barra as by catch lately (noosa thursday and baffle at the end of the month)

have heard a few conflicting reports as to whether or not it is legal to remove a barra from the water for the purpose of a photo during closed season

so my question is, is this legal?

like most people i would be over the moon with a barra and would want a photo.

any help with this would be appreciated

thanks, Jake

Closed seasons (regulated waters) prevent people from fishing at certain times of the year to protect species at vulnerable times in their life cycle, such as during spawning seasons.

Australian bass

A closed season applies to Australian bass throughout Queensland from 1 June to 31 August. See also the section on freshwater closed seasons (Australian bass) for information on taking bass from some fresh water during the closure.

Barramundi

Throughout the Queensland east coast, a closed season applies to barramundi from midday 1 November to midday 1 February.

Throughout the Gulf of Carpentaria and adjoining waterways west and south of the intersection of longitude 142°09'E with the shore at high tide, a closed season applies to barramundi. The timing of the closed season varies each year according to lunar and tide cycles coinciding with spawning peaks.

The Gulf of Carpentaria closed seasons for barramundi for 2011-2013 are:

â– midday 30 September 2010 to midday 26 January 2011

â– midday 4 October 2011 to midday 30 January 2012

â– midday 7 October 2012 to midday 3 February 2013.

It is also prohibited to deliberately target barramundi for catch and release during these closed seasons, as the stress of capture may prevent a fish from spawning.

See also the section on freshwater closed seasons (barramundi) for information on taking barramundi from some freshwater during the closure

This is taken straight from the fisheries website and they have been asked this question before and the answer was to release the fish imediatelt without removing it from the water

The morality of it is why if you like targetting these fish would you want to interupt its breeding cycle you best off leaving them alone till the season opens again or target them in impoundments where you can all year

2 scenes:

you hook up to a barra bring him to the side of the boat and while your unhooking it,fisheries comes around the corner and checks you out, everyones happy

you hook up to a barra, bring him to the side of the boat then lift him into the boat to unhook it and take a photo before releasing it,fisheries comes around the corner spots you and checks you out.

How do you prove, while in possession of a barra in closed season, that your obeying the closed season regulations of no take/no targeting
