queensland Boggy Creek HOT Flatty session! Fri 3/2/12

After donuting out yesterday at Cabbage Tree Creek and fighting the wind off the jetty (against my better judgement) I decided to hit Boggy Creek today on the last hour of the run out tide, arriving about 11:25am.

The water was a typical chocolate brown but otherwise seemed free of any oil from the spill last week, so I put on a Berkley Powerbait 4" Minnow "Smelt Scales" (going cheap at Kmart and BigW under $5) onto a 1/8th jig head and made my first cast. On my third wind BANG, hooked up to a decent fish which turned out to be a 50cm Flatty which I pulled onto the bank where upon the line snapped, but I saved it and here it is

So this one is taken home for the pan....mmmm

Gulp lost so another goes on and a cast is made. Second cast of the day, second wind, BANG, another flatty! This one goes 39.5 cm, just undersize so it goes back. Woohoo this is great fun!

Third cast I get a snag and lose my jig so I put another one on and make my forth cast of the day. BANG! Another Flatty! Incredible! This one is 32cm so back it goes.

A few more casts, I get nearly to the bank and then get smashed! I'm on for all of 1 second then the line breaks. Woa! 4lb braid with 6lb leader not enough for that baby!

A couple more casts but it has gone a little quiet, so I walk 10 meters down the creek, 3rd cast and I'm onto another Flatty of 32cm.

A few more casts but nothing, so I decide to head to another spot, where I hook up again after a few casts.

Stayed there for another 30 mins but all is quiet. Got another hit but lost it.

All in all 5 Flatty caught, 2 lost with another one bust off.

Great fun with a feed to boot

Looks like a nice session there mate.. Flathead around that size are pretty much perfect for the table.

Forgot to mention that bugger had a tough skull. broke a cheap knife trying to humanly kill it when I put the knife between the eyes and hit the butt with my hand....snap!

Dinner, a sprinkling of salt and white pepper dusted with plain flour and cooked 4 mins each side in butter.

Nice work mate, love the pan shot you have inspired me I think boggy will be my destination tomorrow might even break out the old flathead special plastics that I haven't used for nearly a year, and yes they are white

No one made you scroll up and check the crotch shot again Baden but you did it anyway didn't you. Funnily enough my number one placcy for Boggy is a Snapback paddle tail, in you guessed it...white.

Negative, the MOST annoying thing about Boggy is the friggin' mozzies!! They're XOS and lethal. They'll stop at nothing to get your blood, even bite thru your t shirt!!
