Today we went out from Nudgee at about 7Am. We got out to a 'fishy' looking spot and through in our bait (worms, squid and prawns. After about 5 minutes we had drifted over a school of Diver whiting and got onto about 25 reasonable sized whiting and a Sole. We werent doing to well so we went back and did the same drift. This time we picked up about 30-40 very well sized ones. The weather was starting to get a bit rougher and fishing was harder. We decided to do one last drift about a kilometre from the River Mouth and we picked up another 30 or so. All in all we got 108 Whiting and a Sole (This may sound alot but it is only about 3 meals). This has been our best catch this year and for along time.

How many people do u plan on feeding them too?

I'm not to sure what to say??:S theres alot of fish there.....

Well 3 ppl went out and we got 55 and my uncle got 55 thats 2 feeds per family. That was all the fish. These catches arent uncommon and the majority of people have been getting between 50-100 lately.

Where do you live ? Can you freeze the heads and frames - they're good bait for snapper. If you're not too far from Holland Park I'll have 'em if you don't want them.

Must confess I wouldn't keep that many - too long to fillet:blink:

Yeh lol filleting is a pain. I cant wait..... Yeh i keep em for bait. So sorry. We have only really targeted them twice this year. They are really nice tho, very tender flesh. YUMMY.

We caught 30 once. They were smaller than those and that was enough for 2-3 feeds for 4 people.

Only 30? Wow. Well we usually go on 5 fish PP (10 fillets) and 5 ppl. Thats 20-30 fish each. So 2 meals

Yes lol, I will be honest the biggest ones we got the 30-40 in a drift were about 2km East and about 2km out from Schultz Canal. We got 50 a few weeks ago infront of the port but they were quite small.

i like to eat the suckers:) to scale em we used to drag em behind the boat in an onion bag on the way back to the ramp....and we ussally send out the first whiting as a livie to drift behind us too..used to get little school mackeral out from nudgee on em...whiting is the only fish i can handle eating on a sandwich..yum!

Lol no worries. I was very suprised to get them in so close. I have copped s**t from people on another site who dont know what a diver whiting is and say im taking illegal fish. Im glad it isnt happening here.

They are obviously Winter Whiting. Besides, most of them look around or over 23cm. What site was that on?

www.akff.com.au. Most of them are over the old size limit of 20cm. 90% We just kept a couple smaller ones for bait/burley next trip.

Yep cant beat a feed of fresh, filleted whiting, No Bones to worry about. Awesome feed

dude what are you doing those fish are so undersized clearly they are sand whiting..... on the phone to fisheries as i type.

i havent had whiting in ages you have a great catch there i envy you.

When you say you use them for snapper do you just mean in a bag as burley? (heads and frames)

Whiting make good snapper (& other fish) bait - i.e. on the hook.
