Bait decision

Hey, guys. I am newbie of fishing. I wanna know what bait is useful for fishing. I have tried prawns from fishing shops, but they did not work well. Can u guys tell me what kind of bait are u using in saltwater and Brisbane river?

Where abouts are you fishing? And what are you after? If you're after the usual bream, flathead and whiting then Id keep using prawns. Also try squid and chicken breast/ thigh too I find them to be pretty gun baits.

Also try using prawns from a fish market then from a servo. Fresher the better.

Where are you fishing ? Try some live bloodworms with a lightly weighted sinker about the size of your pinky nail on a full tide and you will get something

As mentioned above a little more info on what you are after will help with suggestions. If it were me I'd try and use fresh bait if I could get it- fish flesh or live, fresh prawns, bloodworm, yabbies etc. If collecting your own bait is not possible or convenient then my favourite bait for a wide range of species was the good old white pilly. Rig it on a set of 3 number 1 or 2 gang hooks and a long leader and smallish sinker. Caught plenty of fish on that setup before I discovered lures are more fun.

A fresh prawn will catch anything worth catching in the river. If it's not a live one then peel it. It's amazing the difference peeling a prawn can make.

i usually fishing up to Manly，and brisbane river. Actually I don't have a usual spot. I am after bream, whiting and flathead.

I always use the prawn tha was bought from 7-11. Is that alright? What bait is better for Logan river, cuz i am planing to try there.

I have been lots of common spots and did not work well. Always around Brisbane river.

I have used worm before, actually I don't know how to set the bloodworms

on the hook, LoL

Is the peel prawn easier to be bite by the little fishes? Thx ur advice. Is there any bream spot around brisbane river and Logan river? Thanks a lot

i find a peeled prawn on a 2/0 circle or j hook will hook up most of your species your after. try a running sinker rig aswell. i find the best way to catch with bait is less is better. the less stuffing around and the simplest rigs do work.

If your near manly go down to Lota park at low tide and you can pump yabbies out on the bank next to the loat and tingalpa creek mouth live yabbies are one of the best baits for the bread and butter species like whiting bream flaties invest in a yabbie pump it will reward you with one of the best baits around and for the initial investment after that bait is free great place to fish along that bank as well

Ditch the 7-11 prawns mate. Very poor quality bait at best. Try a bait jig, they are only a few dollars and just jig them around jetties etc for live herring. U can cut flesh baits off the herring, great I've found for flatties.
