Various texts greeted me on Monday afternoon and they couldn\'t have come at a better time. Last exam for the year and time to kick back and enjoy the calm before the storm. Plans were finalised and we are off in the early hours of the morning. Greeted by calm seas and light winds made for a very pleasant ride out, oh and this makes it a bit easier too

Anyhoo, get to the spot and before you know it our rods are bending and fish are hitting the decks. I shot out to an early lead 5-0 fishing Damiki Armour Shads (3\" OxBlood, skin blue) and Damiki Rippers (4\" Smoke Red) on 1/20th and 1/12 #1 jigheads.

We were greeted by some of these fellas to start the day:

Then came time for the double hookups:

Until this day I had never used the Rippers before as I assumed with the body of the plastic being so long, the fish would have a hard time finding the hook. I couldn\'t have been further from the truth as I landed half my fish for the day on the rippers and the other half armour shads.

Total short strikes for the day came to a grand total of 2, with most fish either smashing the plastic on the drop and taking off. Or sucking down the whole placcy whilst being dead sticked

Also spotted these two lurking about.. Tomca & Lindsay

All in all good being on the water again and better yet in good company, always have fun regardless - the fishing and catching side of things is just an added bonus. I think the scores ended up at 7-6 with myself narrowly avoiding swimming home. Highlights of the day were getting towed home 5 times.. these guys would bolt straight into their little hidey-holes and sit there, most not budging but the ones that did come out via freespool busted me off anyway haha. Also hooked a bigger jew than last time so i might have to think about upping it to 4 or even 6lb =\\

Definitely beats sitting at home and just talking about fishing via the forum.

Thanks if you read til the end :)

It was a good day out, I was just pipped, Khoi had the seven to my six. Was slightly freaked when he stormed to a 5-0 lead, but thats fishing. Lots of fun on light gear, saw Tom as he entered the river, claimed the fishing was hard :P ... Got a visit from fisheries or cops, checked our safety gear and had a chat then we sent them on their way.

Once in the river, the fishing picked up for us and ended up with a feed of snapper in the esky.

Without an electric, that boat does not suit my style of fishing. Next time I'll jam the yak on board and use him as a taxi service to get me there.

Security came over for a chat with us once we were tucked in behind the dredge, but it was purely social
