As an ex PMG telephone technician with over 45 years experience in diagnosing and repairing complex faults I thought that I would pass on some hints.

I admit that I got out of my depth when they brought out telephones with dials and curly cords but I managed to soldier on.

You have to be methodical in your approach when confronted with a fault.

First thing to be considered is time of day.

If it is between 8 and 10 go and have smoko.

Between 10 and 12 - cannot do as you are on smoko.

After 12 leave till tomorrow and go to pub.

If no other sucker has picked up the fault docket after a couple of days sit down and have a think.

Go back to step 1,2,or3.

Still there?

Tear up the docket and throw it away.

Got another docket for same thing.

Go into advanced diagnostic stage.

Back to step 1,2,or 3.

Does it really have to be fixed?

Sit and look at it for a few hours.

Pick it up and drop it.

Kick it.

Spray with CRC.

Is there a new one in the store that you can sneak in and swap it with.( Bugger the one in the store is a faulty one from last time.)

Last resort mix up a bit of battery acid with water and sprinkle liberally.

When it turns green or black go to the store and say you have a corrosion problem and exchange it with the other one in the store and after a couple of hours then return it to the store and say it is also faulty and complain bitterly about the repair workshops not being worth a pinch of pelican poop.

In a month or you will have 2 brand new units and the fault fixed .

You will have a great feeling of satisfaction and will probably have too go to the pub for a few to celebrate.

Main points to remember.

Do not rush into things if you walk around with a docket in your pocket they cannot give you another job.

More than one docket a fortnight is too many.

Remember you do not wish to become stressed.

Cheers

Ray
