went out last night down to caloundra with a mate Paul. fishing plastics we started at a boat ramp just up from the board walk where we got hounded by pike. after about 30 mins we drove the short distance around to the board walk, things started the same there with a few pike landed very quickly before they just disappeared when a POD of dolphins came through smashing everything in sight:blink: . fished it hard for about an hour before I suddenly got hit by what I would describe as a freight train on the light gear. I really gave him some stick as there is a lot of rocks in the water to get done on. I thought it was a mega bream until I got first sight of a very nice estuary cod:woohoo::woohoo: . Paul followed me the 20 or so meters the fish had taken my along the bank and got the lip grippers into him for me. got him on a 2\" gulp shrimp in mango ripple on a 1/24th head.

Took a few pics

then on the measure mat he went 44cm ;)

we fished the area for a little while longer but the dolphins had ruined it for us:angry: anyway back in the car and around the corner to the military jetty we went. Paul got a couple of pike before I got onto what once again I thought was a nice bream. the fish took several good runs and tried to do me on one of the jetty pilons and almost succeeded  anyway to both pauls and my surprise a nice flatty showed his face. netted him and took a couple of pics.

yes a couple of people on the board walk. I worked the drop off casting long ways along it and working the plastic back with the current. working with the current allows you ti use much lighter jig heads and gives a more natural bait presentation. and the big up side is whe you go and fish a jetty or peir all the bait fishos fish with there lines going out with the current so it leaves the other side of the jetty or peir free to fish with the current comming towards you :)

i used to snorkel around the broadwalk alot..mainly to collect lost lures and sinkers...there are an amzing array of fish around there...the ussual bream, monster whiting, boof headed flathead, mowong, turtles, jacks, scats, little reefie looking things and too many stonefish to think about and even saw a cray down there once...but there is alot of rubbish down there too..like bed frames, tyres of course , bottles ( some really old) rods, reels, knifes, even a outboard!
