I tried the new boat out yesterday and squeezed in a spot of fishing. I headed out early with my son James to see if everything on the boat worked as it should, it did :) The plan was to pick my wife and other son up around 10 ish to go out and see the some whales.

By the time we got back tot he ramp James and I had clocked up 70km going to Moreton island, the four beacons and back again.

After the others jumped aboard we headed for Cape Moreton and on the way out we came across 2 small whales. Luke for one reason or another has not been out when we have seen the whales so he was jumping out of his skin with excitement. While watching them we see in the distance a whale breaching and the water explosion as it fell back in. We made the decision to go and investigate. It was a little more active than the others and I had the camera set to high burst mode and captured some excellent breaching shots. Well I would have had I had a card it the camera. I forgot I had used it in another camera the other day and not replaced it. I can't believe the amount of stupid things I've been doing lately.

It was around lunch time by now and James wanted to do some bait fishing. While we had been heading towards the whales I kept my eye on the sounder and picked up some great marks and hit the waypoint button. We headed back to that mark and the fish were still there. We had a couple of drifts and caught heaps of small fish (some reef fish) sounded around the area and picked up some bigger solid marks and set drift. The rods started bending and we had a couple of triple hook ups on squire and silver trevally. They ranged from 30- 50cm and a bigger model which straightened the light hooks we were using. All fish released.

The HDS12 was easy to use and at one stage the wife said on one of the drifts it has gone quite. I looked around at the sounder and saw fish 10m off the bottom. I reeled the line up to 10m and as soon as I stopped the bait the rod buckled over and the drag was singing. That was a great feeling to see the fish and present the bait at the same depth for an instant result.

We then stopped off at Moreton Island for a quick snack and break. the wind picked up to 12-15 NE and on the way back in the boat handed with ease. By the time we return to the ramp the trip meter said 150km and we still had a little in the tank.

So a top day out but no pictures. My wife took a couple on her camera might see if I can post them latter.

The boat with 2 adults and 2 children topped out at 60km WOT with the 75HP, so next week with the 100HP on, it should really boogie.

cheers

Wayne

Added photos and a couple form last previous trip. Don't know how they will turn out with quality and size.
