Went down to my favourite river in Logan this morning with my mate who is a baker. He is also a bait fisho so was sceptical when I said we would be fishing with lures only. Well the sparrows hadn’t even digested their dinner when he arrived and we scooted off on a glassy calm river out to the mouth for a look. There were one or two boats hassling the prawns as the sun was rising so we let them be and cast 13 000 times for multiple snags, one hit and a big fat donut! 
there was bait and the odd fish on the sounder but the only action we saw was above the surface with 40+ boats collecting their Australia Day prawns for the bbq. Must’ve been a few around cos even my trusty prawn imitation was getting no love. 
 

needless to say my baker mate is now a convert to lure fishing

Hmmm. Prawns, hey? Might be time to get the prawn net out in the back yard for a few practice throws ready for when the school holidays are over. Bad luck on the donut, @Andrew P. We all have them.

Ah, shame you didn’t manage a bit more Andrew. I hope to get some prawns off the kayak this season.

No mate I struggle to throw a 6ft cast net in my back yard let alone from my tinny in between a marauding pack of boats.

The prawns must be on in the Pine River as well. There would have been thirty or so boats in a small area just to the left of the Bruce Highway bridge on Sunday.

Yes. I believe they are, Greg. I've been seeing some photos of people bagging out on my Instagram feed. I'd imagine there'd be a fair few people wanting to catch some for today!
