The fight of my life

I decided to test myself out today with a little challenge. 

The challenge was to try and catch a 50cm-60cm cod on my little 1-3kg power bream finesse rod with a 1000 shimano stella and 14lb braid with a 10lb fluorocarbon leader. 

The plan as it was worked, I was fishing an old McGrath vibe that I didn't mind loosing. 

I had about a dozen casts just as dawn was breaking when I got hit close to the bank, but man did it hit hard and it started running. 

I soon realised that this, wasn't a 60cm cod. It ran me right to the backing before I got it under control. 

3min of fighting and getting taken down the river away from my net (rookie mistake) but I managed to get it into a beach where I managed to get its head out enough to grab it by the lip. 

When I broke out the tape measure I discovered that it was a big fat  88cm cod. 

That's a fight I won't soon forget, I decided to call it quits after that as it was more then enough excitement for one day.

It was definitely an adventure, but I think I will stick to the 4kg distance spin from now on, that was a lot of work on the little rod and I e got a 2500 stella on the way for that rod too.

Great effort, Bob. Any chance that honey hole is going to run out of fish any time soon. It is amazing how productive that area has been for you.

Not really, 80% of the fish I catch go back, other people catch a lot there too but they always seem too be there. 

That's not to say there aren't any dead quiet days, but when they are running it's worth getting up at 5:30am for. 

Ive got other places in reserve, but they don't replenish quite as good so I only fish them when my main two spots are dry or full of people.
