profish rudder!

hey guys,

when yakking what everyones opinion on using the rudder, pros and cons if you please. i tried my profish out with the rudder and found its okay too change direction a little but if wanna do a 180 alot quicker to just stick a paddle in and swing it around.

yeh the rudder is really more useful in keeping a straight track in windy or rough conditions, yes it will turn you but really thats the paddles job

Yeap i agree with Lee.

I have taken my Profish out a few time now, tried the rudder, but much prefer to use my paddle. In fact now I dont really even bother deploying the rudder.

Maybe coming back through the surf might be different? But I have yet to really test that out.

thanks guys, i sorta messed up my wording a bit, what im trying to establish is how much you guys use your rudder or do you just not use it at all. does it really only need to be used in surf conditions etc. sorry about the wording of first post.

I never had a ruder on my Tempo and only ever really wanted one a couple of times going into a strong breeze

I dont plan on using it when I fish offshore.

But i might try it out to see what I think at a later date.

The rudder will assist you keep on track when it gets a bit tough in the wind, it will also help you point your yak should ever you hook onto a big fish. My paddle does most of the work for me.

ive had the profish out alot since ive had it and preffer no rudder even in surf conditions it works just fine

i believe the rudder to be most usefull when in a crosswind or current situation in true surf a paddle wouldbe more usefull but at the right moment it all helps they certainly help if your paddling long distance and dont want to break stroke

Dont have one on the Tempo. Stay to the keep it simple principle.

Never really needed it. A few occasions on windy and I mean windy days. Other than that just the odd double stoke works fine
